Dear HGSD Parents, Staff and Community,                                                                                   June 12th, 2020

That’s a wrap!  Tuesday June 9th was our official last day of school.  Hopefully the last week or two was successful and families were able to conclude virtual learning as best as possible.  Over the past week we had several farewell parades.  It was wonderful for each school to have a chance to see their teachers one last time and say goodbye for the summer.  The graduation parade on Sunday June 7th was a huge success.  Special thank you to Kim Tess, PTO President, for organizing each building parade and Casey Yost, parent of a senior, for coordinating the graduation parade.

August 2nd will be the formal graduation date.  We recently met with representatives from the Sheboygan County Health department and determined that our best opportunity to hold an “in-person” ceremony would be on August 2nd.  While the ceremony will have to be modified from past years to comply with the guidelines from the county health department, we are confident that we can comply.  Specific guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe ceremony will be coming in the next few weeks.  At the July 20th School Board Meeting we will be confirming that the graduation ceremony will take place.

Reminder to high school students who earned an incomplete grade- they must complete the essential standards of the course by June 23rd to earn a passing grade. If a high school student does not earn a passing grade by that date, they will not earn credit for that course.   Please reach out to your student's instructor if you have any questions.

All in person summer school has been canceled. Course descriptions for virtual summer school have been posted, and registration opened on Wednesday, June 10.  Please note that there will be a limited number of spots available for each class as we want to provide each student with quality virtual instruction. 

There are open counseling spots at Northview, the Middle School and High School through the PATH program for this summer.  The PATH program is a partnership between Howards Grove School District, The United Way, and Ozaukee Community Therapies that brings mental health counseling to students in our district. If you are interested in learning more or think your student could benefit, please reach out to School Social Worker David Hickmann at   

I continue to work with other districts in our county on a re-entry plan for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. We would like a consistent plan between districts. There are significant considerations that need to be included such as bussing, class sizes, schedules, staffing, co-curricular activities, serving lunch, social distancing, and cleaning.  The safe re-opening of school will be our highest priority as we move forward.  As we know more, I will continue to provide updates throughout the summer.

We will continue to serve free grab and go lunches for children under age 18 through the month of June. 

Our schools will continue to have limited office hours during the summer.  Please call ahead if you need assistance.  Official office hours will be updated in the next newsletter.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.  In the meantime, stay safe, healthy and enjoy the summer!
