Dear HGSD Parents, Staff and Community, November 13th, 2020
These are certainly challenging times for all of us. The safety and health of our students and staff is our highest priority. It is unfortunate that we have had to switch to a virtual learning platform for our district, however it was necessary to keep everyone safe and continue to provide quality teaching. We simply did not have the capacity to remain open. With young children of my own in the district, I realize the burden that this places on our families, community, students and staff. The decision to move to a virtual learning model was not an easy decision to make, ideal, or what we know to be the best learning model.
Today, we began virtual instruction for all students JK-12. Virtual instruction will continue through Wednesday, November 25th. November 26th and 27th are no school days to observe the Thanksgiving Holiday. During this time all extra-curricular activities will also be cancelled. At Northview Elementary, parent teacher conferences are still set for Tuesday November 17th and 19th. Virtual learning will conclude at 1:45 on those days.
Wednesday, November 18th will be a regular virtual learning day for Kindergarten through 12th grade. For High School students, November 18th will be an “A” day, the 19th will be a “B” day and so on. On Monday, November 30th, both Middle School and High School students will return to the Hybrid model and students at Northview will return to in-person learning. Wednesday’s will return to the flex day for all students (K-12) as previously set.
During this time of virtual learning, we continue to track attendance carefully. If your child starts to develop symptoms of COVID-19, please communicate that with our office staff. Social distancing, avoiding large group gatherings, face coverings and frequent hand washing are key components to continue even in our virtual setting. Please approach upcoming community and family events with the utmost caution and care.
We understand that with the closure and switch to virtual learning many students are frustrated and upset. Mental wellness is always a priority to us. Please check out the link to community resources and activities on our district website.
Congratulations to the Girls Volleyball Team on their State Championship. A great accomplishment for our girls. We are incredibly proud of the hard work and effort it takes to be state champions, two years in a row.
The regular November School Board Meeting is Monday night at 7pm. You can view the meeting virtually by visiting the Howards Grove School District Website. Information to watch the meeting is on the main page.
Due to delivery issues, we will be using the lunch menu from week of November 16th through the 20th upon our return to school November 30-Dec4th. Free bag lunches will be provided for any individual in the district who is 18 years old or under. Bag lunches can be picked up between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm in the high school commons area (inside the high school foyer) Friday, November 13th through Wednesday, November 25th. This is a grab and go set up, so individuals will not be able to eat on campus.
Thank you all for your continued support. Please let us know if you have any questions.
