Dear HGSD Parents, Staff and Community,                                                                         February 19th, 2021

We continue to see great things happening in our schools and our attendance at each building remains strong.   Our low absenteeism is a direct result in your efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  Thank you for your continue diligence and stamina in fighting this Pandemic.  Please continue to use the daily screener for you child before sending them to school.

Earlier this week I sent out information regarding the upcoming changes to our learning model. At the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, February 15, 2021, the School Board voted to have the Howards Grove High School return to 5 days of instruction per week starting on March 1st.   The hybrid model will be discontinued and all high school students should report to school on Monday, March 1st.  High school students and parents should receive an email from the High School Office with the A/B schedule for the month of March and the schedule for shortened Wednesdays in March.

There is still a full virtual option available for all students in all three buildings; however, we strongly urge families to consider sending your child(ren) to school.  The virtual option should only be used as an option for those families with medical issues or those who chose the full third quarter virtual option.  The virtual option is not available for intermittent attendance or vacations.  The virtual option will also be used when a student or classroom needs to be in quarantine due to COVID-19.

Also, beginning the week of March 1st, through April 1st, all Wednesdays will be half days.  Dismissal will be after all students have had an opportunity to eat lunch.  Dismissal times for all Middle and High School students will be at 12:15 and Northview will dismiss at 1:15.  These times were selected to ensure that every child has the opportunity to have lunch.

You will also notice that our Website has received a “face-lift”.  We are hopeful that the new layout is easier to navigate and find information.  All of the previous links are up and functional, however we are still updating photos and new links.  Please be patient as we make this change.

The Howards Grove School District will be going to referendum on April 6th, 2021.  I have posted information about the upcoming referendum to our website, under the referendum tab.  Included in the information are the current renditions of the new Middle School and High School secure entrance.  These are just concepts and the final design could change slightly.  There is also other relevant information related to the upcoming referendum including projects at Northview and the potential tax impact.  We are also scheduling two information meetings in March as well as a series of tours at the Middle School to see why a new Middle School is needed.  Those will be announced soon.

Thank you all for your continued support of the school district.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Chris Peterson, Scott Fritz, Heather Zizis, Jason Cole, Josh Swanson, and Tracy Bandt
