Dear Howards Grove Families,                                              November 12, 2020

We have experienced a significant increase in absences due to COVID-19 testing, symptoms, and contact tracing.  Within the past week, a large number of close contacts to the positive cases have been issued into a formal quarantine.  We have been working closely with the Sheboygan County Public Health Department regarding contact tracing and positive cases within our district.  As we continue to see cases rise within the district, county, and state, the best way for our staff and student body to stay safe is by learning virtually.

Due to our recent spike of covid-19 cases the Howards Grove School District simply does not have the capacity to open as normal tomorrow.  It has been determined, with the increased COVID-19 cases, students and staff showing COVID-19 symptoms, and the inability to find substitute teachers to cover classrooms, we will begin virtual instruction beginning tomorrow, November 13th through Friday, November 27th. During this time all extra-curricular activities will also be cancelled.

Wednesday, November 18th will be a regular virtual learning day for Junior Kindergarten through 12th grade. For High School students, November 18th will be an “A” day, the 19th will be a “B” day and so on. On Monday, November 30th, both Middle School and High School students will return to the Hybrid model and students at Northview will return to in-person learning.

We implore our community to diligently and vigilantly follow health and safety guidelines. Social distancing, avoiding large group gatherings, face coverings and frequent hand washing are key components for maintaining instruction inside of our schools. As we enter the winter season, more activities will move indoors as weather limits outside activities. Please approach upcoming community and family events with the utmost caution and care. We know that pandemic fatigue may be setting in but please remember that our individual actions both inside and outside of the school setting have large implications. The education and wellbeing of our students relies upon a healthy and safe community.

As we have shared previously, it is imperative that everyone continue diligence in monitoring your health and the health of your child(ren).  The Howards Grove School District has taken unprecedented steps to keep our students and staff safe, but we can only be successful with in-person learning through the help of the community as a whole. The steps we have taken reduce the possibility of exposure and close contacts, however the best thing everyone can do is check your health conditions daily.  If your child(ren) experiences any COVID-19 symptoms and/or you decide to have them tested for COVID-19, contact the school to let us know.
