2nd Grade

Second grade is a year of amazing growth!

Students become more and more proficient in their reading, writing, and math skills.

In Readers’ Workshop, students explore fiction and nonfiction texts by applying decoding, comprehension, and fluency strategies to live and grow as readers and learners.

In Writers’ Workshop, 2nd graders study techniques used by mentor authors to become more skillful writers as they compose narrative, informational, opinion, and poetry pieces.

Second grade mathematicians build flexibility and efficiency with addition and subtraction strategies; extend their understanding of our base-ten number system; and explore measurement, geometry, time, and money.
